About the Office of the Chief Actuary
The Office of the Chief Actuary (OCA) is an independent unit within the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions.
Although the Chief Actuary reports to the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, they’re solely responsible for the content, actuarial opinions, and advice their office provides.
Our mandate
The OCA prepares actuarial valuations of social security programs and Government of Canada pensions and insurance plans. We also provide actuarial advice to federal, provincial and territorial governments.
We regularly produce actuarial reports on programs such as the:
- Canada Pension Plan
- Old Age Security Program
- Canada Student Financial Assistance Program
- Employment Insurance Program
We also help to create an annual report on the operation of the Pension Benefits Standards Act and the success of pension plans in meeting funding requirements.
